Begin your journey at Il Vittoriale degli Italiani, a sprawling complex of buildings, streets, squares, an open-air theatre, gardens, and waterways. Built by Gabriele d’Annunzio with the help of architect Gian Carlo Maroni, this site commemorates the poet-soldier’s “inimitable life” and the achievements of Italians during World War I.

Next, visit Il Museo Divino Infante, home to a remarkable collection of sculptures depicting the Christ Child and, in some cases, the Virgin Mary as a child. Admire the craftsmanship of these standalone works, which range from 60 to 90 centimetres for standing figures and 50 to 70 centimetres for reclining ones.
