This is a perfect relaxing evening tour with almost no history - pure fun and joy. Explore Tartu's alternative side, away from the main historical sights city centre.
I will show you my favourite buildings, street art outside the city centre, and we'll talk about culture, language, education, architecture in the 1920s and digitalisation of the 1990s and modern life.
Walk by Tartu City Library to explore a few pieces of graffiti by Edward von Longus and hear about famous Estonian book authors and Estonian education. Visit the Botanical Garden to talk about Estonians and their love for nature.
Explore some fun statistics and interesting love for stones (nothing to do with “stone” part in Estonia's name!).
I'll tell about Estonia's recovery in the 1990s and massive digitalisation, which helped Estonia advance fast, and learn about the great leader Lennart Meri.
We'll visit the “Freedom” Gallery and talk a bit about street art in Tartu. Explore the areas of Suppilinn, Tahtvere, Vaksali, and Karlova to see Art Nouveau buildings from 1900-1920s and their communities (e.g. student and “secret” societies).
The tour ends in an ex-Soviet factory that became a restaurant and an artsy area!
You can expect to see a lot of street art, graffiti and murals on the way!
