What you can expect

1-Day: Samarkand - Gilan (160 km, ±3.30 hours)

Route: Samarkand - Takhtakaracha Pass - Shakhrisabz - Gilan

Duration: 1 night / 2 days
Description: Departure from Samarkand.

  • Takhtakaracha Pass: stop for Panoramic view from ±1600 m. In addition you can see many restaurants here that cook only lamb on clay ovens which is a local traditional dish.

  • Shakhrisabz: Tamerlane's hometown where by his order was built the largest residence in Central Asia from which today remain only the ruins of a huge entrance portal.

  • Aksaray Residence

  • Dorut Tilovat Complex (the mausoleum of Tamerlane's
    mentor and father)

  • Dorus Saodat Complex (the mausoleum of
    Tamerlane's beloved son)

  • Crypt of Tamerlan. The place where Timur himself also should have been buried, but sudden death forced the heirs to be buried in Samarkand, but Timur prepared a crypt for himself that has still been preserved but without burial.

Lunch (not included)

  • Gilan Village: 2200 m. Upon arrival in the village free time and visit the home of a local and unique painter of this village and he is an academician of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan

2-Day: Gilan - Samarkand (150 km, ±3.00 hours)

Description:

  • Breakfast. Than we continue to walking through village to get acquainted with the local life. A place where you can see a large number of retro cars of the USSR. A place where people still drink mountain water from street ditches - because everything is clean and spotless. You can find beekeeping farms.

  • Watermill: you can meet an old man who is already over 65 years old and is still actively engaged in the production of flour

  • Potato/alternative fields: on land more than 2,200 metres above sea level, people are engaged in the potato harvest. If you are lucky you can try to plant (or harvest) potatoes which is one of the way of income of the local people

  • Lunch and departure

Arrival in Samarkand (hotel/airport/railway station).
