What you can expect

Just minutes from Tulum, in the heart of the UNESCO-listed Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, embark on an unforgettable kayak adventure through ancient Mayan trade routes. This experience invites you to paddle through crystal-clear waters while discovering four distinct ecosystems, all within a setting of extraordinary natural beauty.

As part of a Mayan cooperative dedicated to sustainable tourism, our tours promote local well-being and environmental conservation, ensuring that your visit directly benefits the community.

The journey begins early in the morning, with transport included from Tulum (our booking staff will confirm the exact pickup time). Upon arrival at our Mayan palapa, the heart of our cooperative, you’ll be welcomed with a delightful breakfast at our restaurant, featuring dishes made with fresh, local ingredients. Our expert local guides will introduce you to the history, culture, and biodiversity of this remarkable region before setting off on your adventure.

You’ll then board your kayak and sail across the tranquil lagoons, following a waterway once used by the ancient Maya for commerce and cultural exchange. Along the way, immerse yourself in the serenity of the wetlands, surrounded by lush mangroves and thriving wildlife. Keep an eye out for native and migratory birds such as ospreys, herons, egrets, and even the occasional crocodile basking in the sun.

As you navigate through the handcrafted Mayan canal connecting two lagoons, you'll witness first-hand the ingenuity of this ancient civilisation, whose connection to nature remains ever-present. Throughout the journey, our knowledgeable guides will provide fascinating details about the ecosystems, vegetation, and fauna that make this biosphere so unique.

After an enriching morning on the water, you’ll return to land to conclude your experience with a delicious traditional Mayan meal at our restaurant in our Mayan palapa, prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

This experience is available daily with prior reservation, running from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

By choosing this tour, you are not only embarking on an adventure in one of Mexico’s most breathtaking landscapes but also supporting a community-driven initiative dedicated to preserving the cultural and natural heritage of Sian Ka’an. We can't wait to welcome you!
