Around 1,800 years have passed since Valerius last had to fight for his life in the amphitheatre. He had dreamed of a life of fame and wealth, knowing full well that only a few gladiators can achieve this ascent. As arena fighters, they eked out a life at the lowest level of society.
Their courage and fighting spirit are admired, but at the same time they are despised as slaves who have to earn their meagre livelihood through hard physical labour in the dust of the amphitheatre.
