Arrive in Sakaiminato, a compact port city in western Tottori Prefecture that sits at the tip of the Yumigahama Peninsula between Lake Nakaumi and the Sea of Japan. Meet your local guide at the starting point and get oriented to the area before heading to the first bar of the evening.

Over the course of three hours, walk with your guide from one bar to the next, moving through the distinct drinking areas that make up Sakaiminato’s night scene. At each stop, order drinks and food from the menu, settling the bill directly with the venue before moving on.

Let your guide set the pace, lead you between spots, and open up conversation about the local drinking culture, the town’s character, and the stories behind the areas you pass through. By the third bar, work your way through a cross-section of Sakaiminato’s local bar culture — the kind of places that rarely appear in tourist itineraries.

Leave the evening having drunk alongside locals, navigated a port town’s backstreets, and built a ground-level picture of how people in this corner of Tottori unwind after dark.
