In Japan, there are many workshops that involve the unwilling process of breaking plates and then mending them, but we do not engage in that unwilling action. Originally, Kintsugi was a restoration technique born from the Japanese spirit of cherishing possessions, used for plates that were "gifts from important people," "very precious," or "very expensive." Kintsugi means "golden woodworking," and it is a traditional Japanese art form in which pottery that has been broken unintentionally is repaired with golden lacquer, transforming cracks and imperfections from flaws into beautiful features. Kintsugi teaches us to accept imperfection and find beauty in life's experiences. The Kintsugi jewellery making process will proceed as follows: You will learn about Kintsugi and the history of Japanese culture. You will have the opportunity to touch and experience real lacquer. You will receive an explanation of the Kintsugi method (a sheet will be provided). You will select parts from fragments of high-quality Japanese ceramics, natural stones, and gemstones. You will experience Kintsugi while referring to the instruction sheet.
