We start stopping at Terreiro da Luta to admire peaceful panoramic views over Funchal.

Next, we visit the Ecological Park Interpretation Centre, where you can explore a small nature museum and enjoy a short guided walk around the upper mountain streams that flow down to the city. It’s a quiet, educational and photogenic stop.

We continue to Pico do Arieiro (1,810 m), Madeira’s third-highest peak, where you’ll have time to explore its dramatic volcanic landscapes. You may also spot rare birds such as the Zino’s Petrel.

On our descent, we pass through Camacha, the birthplace of football in Portugal, and visit a nearby section of the Levada da Serra to learn how Madeira’s water channels work — no hiking required.
