Overview

Soho was where the Beatles’ journey from obscure Merseyside musicians to global superstars began. On this self-guided audio tour, you’ll discover the Soho recording studios, exclusive nightclubs, live theatres and swish Mayfair offices, where Beatlemania began.

The tour starts outside the Criterion Theatre at Piccadilly Circus near the London Pavilion, where the Beatles’ films premiered in the 1960s. You’ll navigate Soho’s narrow streets, including the alleyway used as a backdrop for a now-famous gritty 1963 photograph. Along the way, you’ll pass Paul McCartney’s London headquarters, discover the Studios where Hey Jude was recorded, and learn how manager Brian Epstein transformed four scruffy teenagers into the world’s top boy band.

The tour ends at the building near Piccadilly Circus, where the Beatles performed their final public concert in 1969, bringing Mayfair traffic to a standstill and creating a sensation that stopped the world.

Activity itinerary

Hard Rock Cafe (Pass by)

Pass the iconic facade of this rock and roll institution, its walls lined with memorabilia from the artists who defined popular music. This Mayfair landmark sits at the heart of the neighbourhood where the Beatles' management team operated, shaping the band's rise to global fame.

Prince of Wales Theatre (Pass by)

Stand outside this elegant West End theatre where the Beatles made a live television appearance in 1963 that sparked a media frenzy across Britain. It was here that John Lennon made his now-famous comment to the audience that made headlines around the world.

Leicester Square (Pass by)

Stroll through this famous public square, the traditional home of London film premieres and one of the city's most recognised gathering places. In the 1960s crowds lined these streets to catch a glimpse of the Beatles as Beatlemania swept through the capital.

Chinatown (Pass by)

Walk through the vibrant streets of London's Chinatown, its colourful gates and lanterns marking one of the most distinctive corners of central London. Tucked within these narrow streets are connections to the Soho music scene that shaped the sound of the 1960s.

Poppies Fish & Chips (Pass by)

Enjoy a moment outside this celebrated fish and chip shop, which captures the spirit of the working-class culture the Beatles brought with them from Liverpool. The area around it was alive with the cafes and meeting spots where musicians, managers, and music lovers crossed paths.

Soho Square (Pass by)

Pause in this quiet garden square, a rare green retreat tucked into the heart of one of London's busiest neighbourhoods. Paul McCartney's London headquarters stood nearby, making this corner of Soho central to the business of being the world's most famous band.

Trident Studios plaque (Pass by)

Marvel at the modest plaque marking the site of Trident Studios, where some of the Beatles' most beloved recordings were made. Hey Jude was recorded here in 1968, and the studio went on to shape the sound of a generation of British rock musicians.

Carnaby Street (Pass by)

Stroll along this pedestrianised street that became the epicentre of 1960s fashion and the visual identity of Swinging London. The boutiques that lined this passageway dressed the Beatles and defined the look of an era that changed popular culture forever.

London Palladium (Pass by)

Admire the grand facade of this iconic theatre, one of the most prestigious variety venues in the world. The Beatles' appearance here in 1963 was broadcast live on national television, reaching millions of viewers and cementing their status as a cultural phenomenon.

3 Savile Row (Pass by)

Stand outside this elegant Georgian townhouse near Piccadilly Circus, the building that served as the Beatles' Apple Corps headquarters. It was on the rooftop here that the band performed their final public concert in January 1969, bringing Mayfair to a standstill in what became one of rock history's most legendary moments.
