What you can expect

  • Begin near the cathedral in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter at a family-run bodega that's poured vermouth from Tarragona since 1967. Over a glass, taste the bites that belong beside it: house-salted anchovies, a gilda, and a signature potato salad.

Next, step into a shop devoted entirely to Catalan cheese, set inside a former 1920s butter workshop on a street once home to the city's dagger-makers. Taste four cheeses across four textures, from fresh to aged, paired with a glass of cava from the Penedès.

Move into El Born, once Barcelona's medieval trading quarter, for two seasonal dishes and two glasses of natural wine at a bar where the staff can tell you exactly who made what you're drinking.

The evening closes at a restaurant recognised by the Michelin Guide, where the chef builds the night's main course around whatever the market delivered that day, followed by dessert and a dessert wine.

Note: the exact dishes, cheeses, and pairings shift with the season and the day of the week. The shape of the evening, four stops and a full dinner, stays the same.
