Meeting/Redemption Point

    • Via de l'Imperi Romà, 43002 Tarragona, Spain | The meeting point will be on the outside of the Portal del Roser, in front of the Roman wall. We'll be in the central median strip, next to a water fountain, with an UMBRELLA AND A PURPLE T-SHIRT. IF YOU'RE COMING BY CAR The best option is to park at Parking Saavedra on Avenida Catalunya. If it is already full, another good option is the parking lot at the Catalunya Campus of Universitat Rovira i Virgili – the parking lots at Rambla Nova and Plaça de la Font are more expensive. If you prefer to park for free, there is the cemetery car park, but it is further away (about 1 km from the meeting point and 1.5 km from the end of the tour). IF YOU'RE COMING BY BUS Line 22 (Hospital Joan XXIII - El Serrallo) has a stop in front of the meeting point. There are also other stops nearby served by other lines: - Estanislau Figueres (Lines 11, 12 and 22) - Carrer de la Reina María Cristina (lines 6 and 71) - Catalunya (lines 6, 21 and 22) - Rambla Nova (line 8)

What you can expect

  • Tarragona is not just “another Roman city.” This coastal city in Catalonia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and increasingly visited by Brazilian tourists, harbours a rich culture, surprising stories, and a unique identity.

And there's no better way to discover it than with a Brazilian guide who knows Tarragona like the back of his hand.

With over 2,000 years of history, Tarragona brings together remnants of the Roman city of Tarraco (which was once home to the Roman emperor Octavius Augustus), medieval streets, Catalan traditions, architecture, popular festivals, and a very special relationship with the Mediterranean. All of this is part of the same tour, often just a few metres away.

The tour starts at the Portal del Roser, one of the old entrances to the city, and continues through the streets of the Parte Alta (Upper Town), where present-day Tarragona was built on top of ancient Roman Tarraco. Along the way, the city walls, archaeological remains and other details of the city help to reconstruct Tarragona's importance in the Roman world.

The walk continues to Tarragona Cathedral to learn how Tarragona has changed over the centuries and how different historical periods have left their mark on the city and even on a single monument.

The tour also reveals the Catalan identity and some of the traditions that make Tarragona what it is: local culture, architecture, intriguing stories, and details that usually go unnoticed by first-time visitors to the city.

And there's even a popular festival that's very reminiscent of our street Carnival. Can you believe it?

The Mediterranean also plays a key role. As the route descends towards the sea, Tarragona ceases to seem like just an archaeological site and reveals another of its great characteristics: a Mediterranean city that is vibrant and deeply connected to its harbour and coastline.

And there's a special ingredient: the tour is conducted in Brazilian Portuguese by a Brazilian guide who lives in Tarragona and knows the city inside and out.

This makes it possible to present the local history and culture from a very close perspective, making connections that help Brazilian visitors better understand what they encounter in Catalonia.

The aim is not simply to show the most famous places: it's to tell the stories behind them, reveal what usually goes unnoticed, and connect the past and the present so that, at the end of the tour, Tarragona makes much more sense.

For those who want to discover Tarragona beyond the Roman ruins, the avalanche of dates, and the obvious itineraries.
