What you can expect

Step into the Finnish wilderness with a small-group trip to Teerikota — a traditional Finnish hut (kota) deep in Syöte National Park.
Your day begins at the Syöte Visitor Centre car park, where your host Matti meets you. From there, you walk together one kilometre along an easy forest path. We don't hurry. We stop along the way — to listen to the wind in the pines, to taste a lingonberry from the path, to hear a storey about this land and the people who have walked it for centuries.
When the trees open, the kota appears on a quiet hilltop. The fire is already lit. You'll smell woodsmoke before you see the door.
Inside, hot chaga tea is waiting — a forest tea made from the birch fungus that has been used in Finland for centuries. We drink it slowly. There is no rush here.
What happens next depends on the season and on you. Together we walk into the park at an unhurried pace, stopping often. In summer, you'll spot wild blueberries and cloudberries. In autumn, the forest turns gold and red (“ruska”) and the air smells of mushrooms. In winter, you'll walk in deep snow and watch the low light turn the forest pink.
Along the way, we share small team tasks and forest games — ways to slow down, work together, and notice things you usually miss. Some are quiet. Some make you laugh. All of them are designed to help you arrive properly, not just physically but mentally too.
Back at the kota, food cooks over the open fire. Simple, warm meals made from local ingredients — wild fish, root vegetables, rye bread, berries. You sit by the fire, eat slowly, and we talk about why Finns have been called the happiest people in the world. (Hint: it has more to do with this — the forest, the fire, the quiet — than most visitors expect.)
Choose the experience that fits your time:
• Half-Day Forest Trip (3–4 hours) — A walk into the park, stories along the way, and chaga tea, coffee and snacks on fire.
• Full-Day Kota Experience (6–8 hours) — A longer walk, lunch over the fire, time at the kota, and a return walk in the soft evening light.
• Overnight in the Wild (24 hours) — A full day plus dinner, a night in the kota under furs, and breakfast by the morning fire.
You'll be in a small group — never more than six guests, often fewer. Your guide is also your cook, your storyteller, and the person who lit the fire before you arrived. Hosted in English.
Bring good shoes and warm clothes. The forest takes care of the rest.
