Ready to conquer the highest peak on the Iberian Peninsula? Leave the asphalt behind and prepare for an unforgettable ascent within the National Park, which will take you to the summit of the majestic Mulhacén.
It's not just a spectacular hike; it's the epic feeling of being at the highest point on the mainland.
We'll meet in the village of Capileira, a jewel of the Alpujarra area in Granada. From there, we'll take a transfer to Alto del Chorrillo, at an altitude of 2,700 metres, thus avoiding the least interesting part of the trail.
The ascent: It is done on a route of medium difficulty, without technical complications, but it does require a good level of fitness due to the elevation gain and the altitude.
The reward: An extraordinary landscape among peaks, lagoons, and the Mediterranean Sea on the horizon; every metre covered will make you feel that it was worth it. We'll take our time to rest, celebrate, and admire an unparalleled setting. From the top, you'll enjoy a 360-degree vantage point that stretches from the peaks of the Sierra Nevada to the coast.
In the summer season (from June 15 to October 31): We will meet in the town of Güéjar Sierra. Guests will follow our tour guide in their own vehicles to the shuttle bus stop, which will take us to the hike starting point. (Bus service not included in the price; payment directly to the transport company: €15 per person return). This reduces the route to about 12 kilometres and about 6-7 hours of hiking return, with an elevation gain of 780 metres.
The rest of the year (from November 1 to June 14): We'll meet the tour guide in Capileira and follow him in our own car to the starting point of the hike. In this case, the distance increases to 24 km and the time to about 9-10 hours (return), with a positive elevation gain of 1,350 metres. When there is snow, it is essential to use a helmet, crampons, and an ice axe (you can rent them during the booking process for €20 in total, with direct payment to the tour guide).
Having your own vehicle is common; however, if you don't have one, the tour guide can take you in his car from the meeting points in Güéjar or Capileira, upon request.
This route is suitable for hikers with a moderate physical condition. If you're used to hiking, this challenge is for you. We set out in small groups of up to 12 people maximum.
