What you can expect

I am Céline, born in Alsace and a Strasbourg native for over 20 years. After almost as many years in the food industry (marketing & communication), I am now a freelancer in the tourism industry. Describe myself as a sweet tooth with a passion for baking and patisserie, ex-food blogger and also do occasional catering. Food trotter, bilingual, I also enjoy travelling around Germany and exploring neighbouring countries. Also check out my classic food tour through Strasbourg !

If you have visited the old town and still have some time left, it's worth taking a stroll through Strasbourg's new town. Interested in history, eclectic architecture and gastronomy? Then this tour is just the thing for you! Stroll through the German imperial quarter while learning about its history and combining the discovery with a culinary city tour.

The Neustadt (“New Town”) is the district to the north-east of the Old Town, which was built after the Prussian takeover of Alsace in 1871. As the capital of the new German state of Alsace-Lorraine, Strasbourg became the political and administrative centre as well as a city of culture, art and knowledge. Imposing and sumptuous administrative buildings, villas and private hotels, facades adorned with sculptures, long and wide avenues… This district offers a mixture of neoclassical, neo-Renaissance and neo-Gothic buildings that form a beautiful ensemble.

During this tour, you can admire Parisian-style front gardens, amazing Art Nouveau buildings and details. As a historical and last architectural witness of the late 19th century, the district has been on the Unesco World Heritage List since 2017.

Among the historically significant, most famous buildings and places worth seeing are the Palais du Rhin (Imperial Palace) and the University Library on the Place de la République (the former Imperial Square), the Avenue de la Liberté (Champs-Élysées of Strasbourg), the Church of St. Paul, the Palais Universitaire (University Palace) and the Botanical Gardens.
