Overview

  • In one day you know the two faces of St. George, from the highest point of the island to the fajãs on the beach. The 4x4 jeep takes you to places where normal cars don’t arrive, like the Peak of Hope at 1053 metres altitude, overlooking several islands of the archipelago on a clear day. The guide-guide is local and tells you the storey of each stop, from the whale guard to the fajans where you still live today. The traditional Azorian lunch is included, with St. George cheese. Small groups, real-time stops to photograph and for a dive in the natural pools.

Ponta dos Rosais

At the western end of the island, the Guide accompanies you to the old lighthouse of Rosais and the whale guard, over cliffs of more than 200 metres. Explains how the watch functioned at the time of the whale hunt and why the lighthouse was abandoned. Includes a stop at the Ferrã Afonso viewpoint for photos

Pico da Esperança

4x4 climb to the highest point of São Jorge, at 1053 metres. On clear day you can see several islands of the archipelago. The Guide explains the volcanic formation of the island’s central cradle and accompanies the stop at the peaks Montoso and Morro Pelado.

Faja Dos Cubres

Descent to Fahan, classified as a UNESCO Biosphere Reservation. We started at the miradouro, with views over the lagoon and the Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo in the background. Below, the Guide accompanies you to the hermitage of Our Lady of Lurdes, to the lagoon and to the ancient mill, explaining how the fajans were formed and how they still live today.
