The second stone is Jozani Forest Conservation Area, Zanzibar’s only national park and a sanctuary of biodiversity where nature comes alive in its purest form. Located in the heart of the island, this lush tropical forest is home to towering mahogany trees, hidden mangroves, and a rich ecosystem that supports some of Zanzibar’s rarest wildlife. The forest is world-famous as the last stronghold of the endangered Red Colobus Monkey, a playful and charismatic species found nowhere else on earth. As you wander along shaded trails, you’ll encounter these gentle primates leaping gracefully through the treetops, completely u bothered by human presence.
But Jozani’s wonders don’t stop there – the forest also shelters Sykes monkeys, bush babies, duikers, and over 40 species of birds and butterflies, making it a paradise for nature lovers. The nearby mangrove boardwalk reveals another hidden world, where crabs scuttle across roots and the delicate balance between land and sea is on full display. More than just a wildlife haven, Jozani plays a vital role in conservation and community empowerment, protecting endangered species while supporting local people through eco-tourism
The last stop is at Salaam cave swimming with turtles in Zanzibar Kizimkazi fisherman village which is also known for its sea turtle conservation efforts. The cave houses and cares for sea turtles, providing a safe environment for these magnificent creatures. Visitors have the opportunity to learn about sea turtle conservation and rehabilitation programmes, as well as observe the turtles up close. It's a great way to support the protection of sea turtles and gain insight into the importance of preserving their natural habitats
