What you can expect

  • Discover Samarkand in its most magical form — by day and under the glow of night — on a thoughtfully curated walking experience that brings together the city’s greatest highlights, legends, and living traditions. This tour is designed to let you choose how deeply you want to explore: enjoy the enchanting night walking tour, or enhance your journey by the daytime classic walking tour for a complete understanding of Samarkand’s past and present.

Evening: Samarkand by Night – A City of Light and Legends
As twilight settles over the city, your evening walking tour begins at the magnificent Gur-Emir Mausoleum, the final resting place of Amir Temur. Illuminated against the dark sky, its iconic ribbed dome and shimmering mosaics create a powerful and almost spiritual atmosphere. From the outside, your guide shares stories of Temur’s empire and the legacy of the Timurid dynasty.
A short walk brings you to the serene Rukhabad Mausoleum, modest in appearance yet deeply significant. The highlight of the evening unfolds at the legendary Registan Square. As the three monumental madrasahs — Ulugh Beg, Sher-Dor, and Tillya-Kori — light up in vibrant colours, the square transforms into an open-air stage. You’ll witness a breathtaking 3D projection show, where history, Silk Road trade, astronomy, and empire come alive through light, sound, and motion. It’s an unforgettable fusion of ancient architecture and modern storytelling.
Continuing the walk, admire the colossal Bibi-Khanym Mosque, dramatically illuminated to reveal the sheer scale and ambition of Timurid architecture. Nearby, take look the elevated Khazrat-Khizr Mosque, one of the earliest mosques in Central Asia.
The evening concludes at the sacred Shahi-Zinda Necropolis. Walking through this “street of mausoleums” under gentle lighting, you’ll experience the spiritual heart of Samarkand, where intricate tilework shimmers in silence and centuries of devotion surround you.

Optional Daytime: Classic Walking Tour of Samarkand
For travellers who want a deeper, more complete experience, the daytime walking tour can be added as an option. The day tour begins at Gur-Emir Mausoleum, allowing you to explore its architecture and symbolism in detail. From here, visit Rukhabad Mausoleum before continuing to Registan Square, where daylight reveals the extraordinary details of its madrasahs.
Stroll through the lively Siab Bazaar, immersing yourself in local life, colours, and aromas, with opportunities to taste traditional Uzbek snacks. Explore the monumental Bibi-Khanym Mosque, then visit the historic Khazrat-Khizr Mosque, built on the southern edge of the ancient city after the Arab conquest. Just nearby, you’ll also have the chance to visit the mausoleum of Islam Karimov, the first President of Uzbekistan.
The day tour continues to Shahi-Zinda, where your guide explains the significance of the mausoleums. The experience ends with a visit to a Samarkand Silk Carpet Factory about traditional weaving techniques
