Start your day with a pickup from your hotel in Samarkand and head to the Jartepa border crossing. Cross into Tajikistan and make your first stop at the Sarazm ancient site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. View the impressive exterior and massive entrance gate from outside.
Next, stop at the Panjakent Bazaar and wander the lively local market for fresh fruits, nuts, spices, souvenirs, or snacks. Feel the authentic Tajik vibe and grab anything you need for later.
Head into the Fann Mountains along the scenic Shing River Valley. Stop at each of the Seven Lakes (altitudes 1,640–2,400 m): Mijgon (eyelash), Soya, Hushor, Nofin, Khurdak, Marguzor (the largest and most iconic), and Hazorchashma (the highest). The colours change magically – from bright turquoise to deep blue and emerald – framed by rugged peaks and waterfalls.
At the final lake (Marguzor or Hazorchashma), kick back with a cold drink (bring your favourites or grab some en route), enjoy snacks/picnic style, take epic photos, relax by the crystal-clear water, and soak in the peaceful mountain air.
In the late afternoon, cross back through the Jartepa border into Uzbekistan and transfer to your Samarkand hotel.
