On this comprehensive tour, we will visit two of the most beautiful and picturesque White Villages in Andalusia.
First, we will visit Ronda, perched atop a plateau traversed by the Guadalevín River gorge. We will be captivated by the breathtaking views from its most photographed spot, the impressive Puente Nuevo (New Bridge), which connects the old town with the new town over a chasm 100 metres (328 feet) deep. Accompanied by our local guides, we will visit this walled city, the setting for stories and legends of bandits and bullfighters, and we will gain a first-hand understanding of the many reasons that make Ronda one of the most visited towns in Andalusia. As the Czech poet Rainer Maria Rilke said after travelling throughout Europe, “I have sought everywhere for the town of my dreams, and at last I have found it in Ronda… There is nothing more unexpected in Spain than this wild, mountainous town.” We will enjoy free time for lunch to recharge our batteries for our next destination.
Next, we will visit the beautiful village of Setenil de las Bodegas, a network of streets literally embedded in the canyon of the Guadalporcún River. We will be captivated by the rustic beauty of its vernacular architecture, characterised by the white of its façades and the ochre of its stone, and above all, by the uniqueness of its cave-like streets. The village is an open-air geology lesson, divided by the river: on one side are the Cuevas de Sol (Sun Caves), and on the other, the Cuevas de Sombra (Shadow Caves). We can enjoy a beautiful walk beneath these ancient rocks, where you can walk in the rain… without getting wet! After a bit of leisure time in Setenil, our coach will take us to Ronda, the “dreaming town” of Andalusia.
