The Civic Art Gallery of Reggio Calabria houses works of art of exceptional artistic value that tell the history of art and art collecting in Calabria from the 15th to the 20th century. The art historian and qualified tour guide will take you on a journey through time during which you will “meet,” among others, Antonello da Messina, Luca Giordano, Mattia Preti, Francesco Solimena, Francesco De Mura and many Calabrian artists of the 20th century who enjoyed national and international renown. The history of the Art Gallery will also be an opportunity to recount the history of this city, which has been mentioned by Italian and foreign poets, writers, and travellers, each of whom has appreciated its artistic and scenic beauty.
The tour will start at the entrance to the museum. The guided visit to the Art Gallery will be followed by a guided tour to discover the modern and contemporary works of art located throughout the historic centre, a veritable open-air museum. Examples include the Monument to the Fallen by F. Jerace, the statues by Rabarama, and the work by E. Tresoldi. The tour will end in Piazza Indipendenza, and participants will have the opportunity to freely sample typical local products or stroll along Corso Garibaldi, the shopping street.
