What you can expect

  • We will meet at our office in Pucón to get to know each other, check and adjust your equipment, and provide a brief explanation of the climb. We will also guide you through the expected conditions, clothing, food, and hydration recommendations, so you arrive prepared for the mountain.

The following day, we will meet at 6:00 AM at our office. Together with our guiding team, we will drive approximately 30 minutes from central Pucón to the base of Villarrica Volcano, one of Chile’s most iconic active volcanoes.
From 1,200 metres above sea level, we will begin a mountain hike at a progressive pace, allowing your body to gradually adapt to the altitude and terrain.

As we approach the glacier, we will begin using crampons and an ice axe, with guidance and support from our experienced guides as we continue across snow and ice.

After approximately 5 to 6 hours of climbing, we will reach 2,847 metres and the summit. There, you will be able to look into the active crater, admire its impressive geological formations and, depending on the conditions, observe fumaroles and even lava.

From the summit, enjoy 360° views of volcanoes, lakes, and forests across the Araucanía region. We will spend approximately 30 minutes at the summit before beginning the descent, which takes around half the time of the ascent and combines hiking with controlled snow sliding.
Throughout the experience, we will talk about the Indigenous peoples of the Andes, their relationship with the mountains, and volcanology, connecting the physical challenge with the history and nature of the territory. Welcome!
