Leave Porto for a private full-day journey through the lagoon landscapes, Atlantic villages, and cultural traditions of Aveiro and Costa Nova.
After hotel pickup in Porto, travel south towards the Ria de Aveiro region with your tourism-certified guide-driver. Begin with a short photo stop at Cais da Torreira, where traditional moliceiro boats and calm lagoon views introduce the character of the day.
Continue with a local ferry crossing to São Jacinto, an efficient and scenic way to connect both sides of the lagoon without backtracking. From there, follow the Atlantic coast towards Barra, a working seaside village known for its beach, canal, fish market, and Farol da Barra, the tallest lighthouse in Portugal.
Next, visit Costa Nova for a guided walk among its famous striped palheiros. Learn how this colourful village grew from fishing traditions into one of the most photographed coastal settings in the region.
Before lunch, choose whether to add a visit to Noeirinha, a natural sea salt factory, where you can learn about artisanal salt production and the ecological importance of the lagoon. Lunch is not included, giving you free time in Aveiro and flexibility to choose where and what to eat. Your guide-driver may assist with recommendations or reservations.
In the afternoon, explore Aveiro’s historic centre on foot. Visit landmarks such as Igreja da Misericórdia and Aveiro Cathedral while learning about Santa Joana and the city’s development. A short introduction to Ovos Moles is included, with tasting available at your own expense.
You may also add a traditional 45-minute moliceiro boat ride through Aveiro’s canals for a relaxed view of the city’s bridges, waterways, and lagoon identity. Before returning to Porto, stop at Aveiro Railway Station to admire its azulejo panels depicting regional life and maritime traditions.
The day ends with a comfortable private transfer back to your Porto hotel.
