The most accessible of all the Meteora monasteries, Agios Stefanos offers magnificent views over the valley and houses an impressive chapel and museum. Still active and run by nuns, it reflects the peace and devotion of monastic life.
Stroll through this charming town at the base of the Meteora rocks. Visit local shops for souvenirs, enjoy a coffee in the central square, or simply take in the dramatic views of the towering cliffs above.

Know before you book

  • Specialised infant seats are available
  • Travellers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
  • The total driving time from Volos Port to Meteora and back to the port is approximately 4 hours
  • This tour includes approximately two hours of moderate to strenuous walking, with numerous steps to negotiate
  • Shoulders and knees must be covered. Women are not permitted to wear pants or trousers inside the monasteries. It is recommended to wear a skirt or bring a pashmina or wrap to cover pants. Men must wear long trousers and cover their shoulders.
  • Photography is not allowed inside the churches.
  • Comfortable walking shoes and hats are recommended.
  • On Mondays, the Monastery of Agios Stefanos is closed, and the visit will be replaced with the Monastery of Rousanou.
