      What you can expect

      • Admire the bountiful cultural sights in the former capital of Lombok, once ruled by the Balinese rajahs. Wander the rich, spilling alleyways in the Sweta market, visit the remains of ancient palaces, and even take a horse-drawn cart to a farming village.

See ancient Maturam, visiting the Mayura Water Palace, built in the city centre in 1744. Tour the remains of a Balinese royal complex, set in an idyllic park with avenues of mango trees.

Continue to Sweta market, the largest on Lombok. Wander through its dim alleyways, seeing stalls spilling over with coffee beans, eggs, rice, fish, fabrics, crafts, and fruit, in addition to a separate bird market.

Take a horse-drawn cart to Getap village. See blacksmiths who produce farming tools, including hand ploughs, horseshoes, and traditional kitchen utensils. The final stop is at Lombok museum, which features exhibits on the geology, history, and culture of Lombok and Sumbawa.
