- 2026 ANDREJ DÚBRAVSKÝ: THE REST INTERVAL
In the “Rest Interval,” Dúbravský develops a visual world that can be described as a form of “biological expressionism.” The exhibition features numerous paintings of bees, chickens, and other organisms that do not appear as distinct groups of motifs but, together with the human figures, form a coherent whole. The result is a world of the living, in which all bodies—human and non-human alike—are interconnected through pulse, movement, and constant change.
Andrej Dúbravský (born in Nové Zámky, SK) lives and works between in Rastislavice, Bratislava, and New York City. He studied sculpture at the Academy of Applied Arts in Bratislava before continuing his training in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, graduating in 2013.
Dúbravský is a contemporary painter working within a figurative, often expressionistic and gesturally driven approach to painting. His practice focuses on the human figure—frequently male bodies—situated in relation to landscape, domestic settings, and densely populated natural environments. His painterly language combines observational figuration with a fluid, materially open handling of paint.
Dúbravský has exhibited internationally, including in Berlin, New York, Rome, Seoul, and Prague. His works are represented held in public collections, such as the Slovak National Gallery. He received early recognition with the VÚB Prize for Young Artists in 2011 and 2012.
