What you can expect

Explore the dark history of torture law and instruments at the Museum of Torture and Torture Law in Prague. Discover the ways in which torture law was applied over the centuries and how various torture instruments were used to extract confessions or punish offenders.

Visit the reconstructed cellar spaces on Celetná Street in the centre of Prague, where the museum is located. Spread across a space of 400 square metres, around 100 exhibits and dozens of period engravings are displayed.

The mystical atmosphere of the entire exhibition is enhanced by wax figures placed in authentic settings, sound effects, and especially two special audiovisual effects, which intensify the unique experience of the cellar tour and the entire exhibition.

See authentic and detailed replicas of torture instruments, such as the iron maiden, the Spanish boot, the rack, the pear, and many others. In addition to physical exhibits, the museum also provides textual information and documents that clarify the historical and legal contexts of torture. Understand the role torture played in judicial processes and its consequences for society.
