Overview

  • Step into a living, breathing work of art. In 1899, a visionary Grand Duke decided to build a utopia on a hill in Darmstadt. He gathered the smartest minds of the avant-garde to reshape life itself – from the most imposing towers to the smallest teacups. This tour explores the Mathildenhöhe artists' colony, where romantic Art Nouveau and the beginnings of strict modernism meet in a breathtaking way. Discover the triumphs, the bitter rivalries, and the beautiful, yet flawed dream of the total work of art.
