What you can expect
Leave the usual tourist areas behind and explore Narvarte after dark, one of Mexico City’s best areas for late-night tacos.
Over approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, walk between four taco stops before finishing the evening with a beer together. Each stop introduces a different taco style, cooking method, and part of Mexico City’s food culture.
Begin at a area institution that has been grilling costilla over open coals since the 1950s. Watch the smoky, juicy rib meat being chopped directly from the grill and served with salsa, onion, coriander, and lime.
Continue to a classic tacos al pastor stand. See the marinated pork sliced directly from the trompo and served on warm tortillas with pineapple and fresh toppings. Depending on your appetite, you may also have the chance to try a gringa with pastor, melted cheese, and a flour tortilla.
Next, try suadero, one of Mexico City’s essential tacos. Slowly cooked in its own juices until tender, rich, and lightly crisp around the edges, it can be enjoyed on its own or combined with longaniza as a campechano.
Then comes the wild-card stop, where we may share an alambre together or try another speciality that is especially good that evening. The exact choice depends on what is open, what is available, and what best completes the route.
After the final food stop, head to a local area bar for an included beer. Relax with the group, talk about everything you have eaten, and enjoy the atmosphere of Narvarte after dark.
Throughout the experience, learn about the history of Narvarte, the growth of Mexico City, and how migration, area life, and local traditions helped shape the city’s taco culture. The conversation is informal and personal, with time to ask questions about the food, the city, and everyday life in Mexico City.
This is a casual walking experience with some standing and pavement dining. Wear comfortable shoes and arrive hungry, as the included food is intended to serve as dinner.
Meet at the designated starting point in Narvarte. The experience ends at the final beer stop within the area.
