What you can expect

Begin your tour in Nagano City, a vibrant temple town centred around Zenko-ji Temple, one of Japan’s most significant Buddhist sites. Founded in the 7th century, the temple is home to the first Buddhist statue ever brought to Japan.

Participate in the O-asa-giyo (morning ritual) or brave the “Kaidan Meguri,” a pitch-black underground passage where searching for the “Key to Paradise” is said to guarantee enlightenment.

For an immersive stay, book a shukubo (temple lodging) to experience the life of a pilgrim, complete with traditional vegan Buddhist cuisine (shojin ryori).
