The Maracana stadium was built in 1950 to host the football World Cup for the first time that same year after receiving much support for the construction from the journalist Mário Filho, considered the most outstanding sports journalist in Brazil and nicknamed “the crowd creator” by many.

A stage of historical moments such as the “Maracanazo,” Pelé's thousandth goal, and the remarkable victory of the German national team against the Argentine national team in the 2014 World Cup final.
