Begin your day with a convenient pickup from your accommodation in Aktau. Travel in a comfortable 4x4 vehicle with a professional driver-guide. Head to Kapamsay Canyon, a multi-kilometer chalk canyon on the Tupkaragan Plateau, located in Mangystau’s Silicon Valley. Admire the towering cream-white cliffs, massive boulders, and a hidden grotto with a green oasis that create a striking contrast in the arid landscape.

Next, visit the Shakpak-Ata Underground Mosque, one of the most sacred sites in Mangystau, dating back to the 8th–13th centuries. The mosque is associated with the Sufi healer Shakpak Ata and is carved directly into the rock. Then, head to Shakpak-Ata Sai Gorge, a scenic valley near the mosque, featuring smooth chalk cliffs embedded with flint stones. At the end of the gorge, the rock formations resemble a dragon’s tail.

Continue to the Valley of Balls (Torysh), one of the most mysterious places in the region, famous for its giant spherical concretions scattered across the steppe. Fossilised remains of ancient marine life can still be found here. Next, visit Kok-Kala (Green City), a unique geological area with fossilised Jurassic-era vegetation. The landscape is shaped by eroded hills of red, white, and black clay.

Next, visit Mount Sherkala, a solitary mountain resembling a giant yurt from one side and a sleeping lion from the other. Walk around the mountain while enjoying constantly changing panoramic views. Then, head to Samal Gorge, a cool, green canyon with trees, shrubs, and a fresh natural spring, offering a refreshing contrast to the surrounding desert.

Finally, visit the Airakty Valley of Castles, a spectacular system of isolated mountains resembling medieval castles. The area is also known for ancient petroglyphs and breathtaking sunset views. After a full day of exploring, return to Aktau.
