Begin your day with a morning pickup from your hotel in Malindi and head straight to Gede Ruins, one of the most intriguing Swahili archaeological sites along the Kenyan coast. Walk through the ancient stone village hidden inside a coastal forest, explore the palace, mosques, and old houses, and learn the stories of the people who lived here centuries ago. Enjoy the quiet forest atmosphere, butterflies, and playful monkeys.
After Gede, continue to Watamu, a relaxed beach town known for its turquoise waters and marine charm. Visit the Watamu Marine Park Viewpoints and take time to enjoy the stunning ocean scenery. Depending on your preference, spend part of the morning at Watamu Beach, go for a short nature walk in the surrounding areas, or pass by the local shops for crafts and souvenirs. Watamu has a very calm coastal vibe, perfect for unwinding between stops.
Drive back towards Malindi for lunch at a local Swahili restaurant, where you enjoy coastal favourites like pilau, biryani, seafood, mahamri, or coconut-based dishes. After lunch, continue with cultural highlights around Malindi town—the Vasco da Gama Pillar, Portuguese Chapel, and Malindi Museum, which showcase the interactions between early explorers and the Swahili Coast.
From here, walk through Malindi Old Town, visit the markets, and experience the daily cultural rhythm—colourful fabrics, spices, and friendly coastal hospitality. If time allows, you may include an optional stop at the Falconry of Kenya before ending the day.
In the late afternoon, head back to your hotel with great memories of beaches, culture, and history all combined into one rich coastal experience.
