What you can expect

  • Discover a completely different side of Madeira on a guided hike along the PR8 Vereda da Ponta de São Lourenço, located on the island’s spectacular eastern peninsula.

Unlike Madeira’s lush green mountains and levadas, Ponta de São Lourenço offers a wild and dramatic landscape shaped by volcanic rock, the Atlantic Ocean, and centuries of wind and erosion. Along the trail, enjoy incredible views over rugged cliffs, hidden coves, and the contrasting blue waters of Madeira’s north and south coasts.

Your local guide will lead you along the trail at a comfortable pace, with time to stop at the best viewpoints, take photos, and learn more about the landscape, geology, plants, and history of this unique part of the island.

The route includes several ascents and descents as we make our way across the peninsula towards Casa do Sardinha. Here, we take a well-deserved break surrounded by one of Madeira’s most impressive coastal landscapes before beginning our return.

This experience is designed for a small group, creating a more relaxed and personal atmosphere throughout the hike.

Ponta de São Lourenço is exposed to the elements and has very little shade, so conditions can change depending on the wind, sun, and weather. We recommend comfortable hiking shoes, water, sun protection, and a light jacket.

Experience one of Madeira’s most iconic trails and discover the wild, volcanic beauty of the island’s easternmost point.
