Step into the world of a Sámi reindeer herder and experience an authentic encounter with the reindeer. During this 3-hour experience, meet and feed the reindeer, try your hand at lasso throwing, enjoy a traditional Sámi meal inside a warm lavvu, and listen to stories about the herd, Sámi culture, and life in the Arctic.
Begin your visit in the lavvu, where your hosts welcome you and share what to expect before meeting the reindeer. After a short introduction and safety briefing, step into the reindeer enclosure. Get close to the animals, feed them by hand, and learn about their lives and personalities through stories told by your guide.
After spending some time outdoors, gather inside the lavvu again – by the fire and with panoramic views of the reindeer grazing outside. Enjoy a traditional Sámi meal: Mállás, a traditional Sámi slow-cooked meat soup, with a vegetarian option available. Afterwards, enjoy coffee or tea served with something sweet and local, such as cloudberries with cream or coffee cheese.
As you enjoy your meal and fika, hear stories about Sámi life, music, and traditions – who we are, where we come from, and what it means to live with the reindeer. The experience ends outside by the fire, where you can return to the enclosure and spend a moment with the reindeer herd, and try your hand at lasso throwing.
