Embark on a stunning 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) heritage loop hike through the heart of the Dordogne Valley to discover two iconic villages classified as among the “Plus Beaux Villages de France” (The Most Beautiful Villages of France): Loubressac and Autoire. This guided walk combines history, scenery, and nature, making it the perfect way to get to know the area while enjoying charming routes.
The tour departs from Loubressac, perched high above the valley. The guided tour of the village allows you to appreciate the authenticity of its architecture, which is partly medieval, and its traditional Quercy houses. You will then continue on foot to the edge of the cliff overlooking Autoire, where you can take in a spectacular view of the Autoire Gorge, which is classified as a Protected Natural Area.
The route continues with a visit to the Château des Anglais, a former military stronghold perched on the cliff, before you reach the hamlet of Siran for a bird’s-eye view of the famous Autoire Waterfall. The return journey to Loubressac takes you across the causse, a plateau dotted with dry-stone walls, gariottes (traditional dry-stone houses), and dolmens, which bear witness to the rural landscape and local history.
Throughout the hike, your guide will share insights into the local heritage, the viewpoints, and the rich flora and fauna you encounter along the way.
