What you can expect

Mount Emei is located within the territory of Emeishan City, Leshan City, Sichuan Province. Approximately 160 kilometres away from Chengdu City. Mount Emei kicks off at Baoguo Temple at the mountain foot. Surrounded by centuries-old nan trees, the ancient temple features crimson walls and dark tiled eaves. You may admire the antique bronze Huayan Pagoda from the Ming Dynasty, and occasionally watch masters demonstrate authentic Emei Kung Fu, experiencing the profound charm of traditional Chinese martial arts and Buddhist culture up close.
Take the scenic shuttle bus to Wuxiangang and start hiking to Qingyin Pavilion, home to one of Mount Emei’s top ten scenic spots – Twin Bridges & Singing Streams, two aged stone arch bridges stand over the water. Keep going along wooden boardwalks to the One-Line-Sky Gorge: towering steep cliffs squeeze together, leaving only a thin strip of sky overhead, with creepers hanging down rocky walls and brooks winding beneath your feet, just like wandering into a classic Chinese ink painting landscape.Shortly ahead lies the Wild Macaque Reserve, the most popular highlight for overseas visitors. Groups of wild Tibetan macaques wander freely in the woods: some lounge lazily on railings, some leap and chase among branches, while baby monkeys cuddle their mothers for fun. Under keepers’ guidance, you can watch these lovely wild primates safely and enjoy genuine primitive mountain wildlife scenery.Trekking uphill, you will pass centuries-old temples including Hongchunping and Xianfeng Temple amid primeval forests, stop for authentic vegetarian temple meals and fragrant Emei Xueya green tea to refresh yourself amid peaceful woodlands.Early the next morning, set off from Leidongping, walk a short distance to Jieyindian and ride a cable car up to Golden Summit at 3,099 metres above sea level. Once stepping out of the cable car cabin, breathtaking views unfold right in front of you. The 48-meter-tall gilded Samantabhadra Statue glimmers under sunshine beside Huazang Temple with golden roofs and red walls. Standing at the Cliff View Platform, gaze at rolling mountain ranges wrapped in boundless sea of clouds; white clouds surge like ocean waves, sometimes flooding cliff edges and sometimes parting to reveal dark green peaks. Catch stunning sunrise as golden-red sunlight spills all over cloud layers at dawn. With good luck around 9–10 am or 3–4 pm, witness the rare Buddha’s Light: a colourful circular halo surrounds your shadow projected on cloud mist, a unique natural wonder exclusive to Mount Emei.Spare your spare time wandering around Golden Summit, staring at distant snow-capped mountains, or pick local specialities like Emei tea as souvenirs before heading back. This full journey perfectly combines profound Buddhist culture, primeval ecology, spectacular landforms and magical natural phenomena, allowing you to fully explore the timeless charm of this precious dual heritage mountain.
