Discover the Amalfi Monumental Garden, a breathtaking terraced lemon grove cultivated by the Aceto family for seven generations. This immersive tour offers a unique glimpse into Amalfi’s agricultural and historical heritage, set against stunning panoramic views of the Amalfi Coast.
Nestled beneath the Monumental Cemetery of Amalfi, this ancient garden dates back to 700 AD and is part of the town’s rich history. It was once vital to Amalfi’s food supply and is located near the historic San Lorenzo al Piano aqueduct, which transported water from Scala. Records from 1000-1100 AD document its ongoing modifications, showcasing its importance over the centuries.
The Sfusato Amalfitano lemon, a PGI-certified variety, is the heart of this experience. Introduced by Amalfi’s seafarers in the 10th century, these lemons have shaped both local agriculture and cuisine. Some of the trees in the garden are centuries old, producing lemons that are used in limoncello, jams, and honey.
For the past 30 years, the Aceto family has carefully preserved this remarkable garden through meticulous maintenance. Certified organic, it follows sustainable farming practices, including integrated biological control and beekeeping for pollination and honey production.
On this 90-minute tour, you’ll be guided by members of the Aceto family through the historic lemon terraces, where you’ll learn about traditional cultivation methods, and take in the lush surroundings. The experience includes a stop at a scenic terrace offering breathtaking views of Amalfi and the Mediterranean Sea, allowing for a moment of relaxation under the shade of the lemon trees.
A highlight of the tour is the tasting session, where you can enjoy fresh homemade lemonade, a slice of lemon cake, and an authentic limoncello demonstration.
