Discover a lesser-known side of Las Médulas, the largest gold mining complex of the Roman Empire, now a World Heritage Site. On this horseback route, you'll venture into a historic and untamed landscape, following the traces of Roman engineering among canals, sluices, and ancient watercourses.

The experience focuses on the park's large sluice: a valley about 3 km long where a completely artificial river channel was built to wash the material extracted from the mines and separate the gold. From the area that starts by the River Sil (from Salas de la Ribera), the route climbs through the waste rock area until it reaches one of the most striking points of the trail: the Cueva de la Palombeira, a cave carved into the rock that is about 250 m long and 7 m high, unique of its kind within Las Médulas.

After the visit, the descent continues through the El Valgón canyon, an impressive limestone corridor of approximately 1 km that allowed water to be channelled from the mine back to the River Sil. Between rocky cliffs and open countryside, you'll experience the perfect combination of nature, archaeology, and adventure.

Throughout the entire route, you will be accompanied by a guide, with a helmet and a fully equipped horse included, so all you have to do is focus on enjoying the scenery and a unique, exclusive, and memorable ride.
