Lanzhou Danxia Geological Park is one of Gansu Province’s key cultural tourism projects and a major initiative by the Lanzhou Municipal Government. Located along the Yellow River, the park stretches across Yongdeng County, Gaolan County, Xigu District, and Anning District. It enjoys a prime location only 13 kilometres from city centre Lanzhou and 30 kilometres from Lanzhou Zhongchuan International Airport, making it the closest Danxia landform cluster to a major city in China.
The park covers a planned total of 400 square kilometres, with a core sightseeing zone of 25 square kilometres, ranking among the largest of its kind in the country. The landscapes are dominated by the Hongshan Bay landform, complemented by dramatic Danxia cliffs, solitary peaks, deep valleys, natural stone arches, and striking rock formations shaped by wind and water. These geological wonders create a colourful and diverse terrain, offering both grandeur and elegance. Recognised by experts as a “golden tourism resource on the Silk Road,” the site combines natural beauty, cultural value, and accessibility, making it an unmissable destination in northwest China.
