What you can expect
The tour starts at 9:00 AM from Kyoto Station.
The guide will be there a few minutes early, and you can recognise them by the Japón Viajero company logo they will be holding. After the introductions, your guide will explain the tour conditions.
We will then take a train to Saga-Arashiyama Station and board a local bus to reach our first point of interest, Otagi Nenbutsu-ji Temple.
This temple is famous for its 1,200 rakan statues, each with a unique expression that brings a blend of spirituality and whimsy to the setting. This temple offers a unique and captivating experience.
We will continue our walking tour to Adashino Nembutsu-ji Temple, a site that pays tribute to childless souls through thousands of stone statues. The solemn atmosphere invites introspection and reflection on Japan's ancient Buddhist traditions.
Our next destination is Nison-in Temple, known for its two main Buddha statues and its natural surroundings, which make it an ideal place to relax and meditate amidst the tranquility of nature.
Next, we will head to Rakushisha, the former home of the haiku poet Mukai Kyorai. Here, you can breathe in the air of ancient Japan and experience the peaceful life of poets of the past. The simplicity of the setting conveys a sense of calm and connection with classical literary culture.
Next, we will visit Jojakko-ji Temple, nestled on a hillside with breathtaking views of Kyoto city. Surrounded by lush trees and crowned by a pagoda, this temple is perfect for those seeking a place to relax in harmony with nature.
Next, we will take a stroll through the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, one of Japan's most iconic landscapes. Here, the tall, serene bamboo trees create an atmosphere of peace, ideal for connecting with nature. Walking among these trees creates an unparalleled sense of serenity.
The tour concludes at Tenryū-ji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This temple is renowned for its Zen gardens, which are designed to create harmony between the human spirit and the natural environment. As you walk through its landscapes, you will feel a deep sense of calm, the perfect way to bring this spiritual and natural journey to a close.
The tour ends at approximately 3:00–3:30 p.m., after exploring the most emblematic corners of Arashiyama, both in terms of nature and spirituality. Afterwards, guests can enjoy the Arashiyama shopping area.
This itinerary seamlessly combines the charm of the bamboo forest with the spirituality of historic temples, offering a unique opportunity to disconnect from everyday life and immerse yourself in the essence of traditional Kyoto.
