What you can expect

  • Meet your guide at Demachiyanagi Station and travel by train to Kurama, a traditional mountain village in the northern Kyoto mountains. Explore the historic Kurama-dera area and beautiful cedar forests on an easy-to-moderate guided forest walk of approximately 4 hours.

Take your time to capture photos, admire the scenery, and learn about the local culture. In autumn, enjoy the beautiful Japanese fall foliage. After the walk, your guide will point you towards a local Japanese lunch and an optional visit to Kurama Open-Air Onsen, a traditional mountain hot spring surrounded by forest.

Kurama Onsen welcomes guests with tattoos, making this particularly appealing to international travellers who may struggle to find tattoo-friendly onsen in Japan.
