What you can expect

  • Escape the crowds and discover a quieter side of Kyoto on this relaxed walking tour from Ginkaku-ji to Nanzen-ji via the famous Philosopher’s Path.

Led by a former Japanese history teacher, this experience goes beyond typical sightseeing. Along the way, you'll explore Japanese ideas such as wabi-sabi, Shinto, philosophy, and Zen while visiting hidden corners that many travellers miss.

Rather than listening to a long lecture, you'll be encouraged to join the conversation. Enjoy fun quizzes, cultural discussions, and plenty of opportunities to ask questions about Japanese history, religion, education, daily life, and modern society.

Highlights include Ginkaku-ji, a charming local shrine, the Philosopher’s Path, traditional shops, hidden cultural spots, Nanzen-ji Temple, and the iconic Suirokaku Aqueduct.

At Nanzen-ji, you'll also have the chance to experience a brief moment of Zen-inspired meditation and reflection.

Perfect for curious travellers who want meaningful conversations, local insights, and a deeper understanding of Japan beyond the guidebook.
