Description

Ready to head underground and explore a totally new side of Houston. This tour trades traditional sights for something a lot more unique – the underground system of tunnels below the city! Join an expert local guide as you discover Houston’s hidden underground tunnel system, learning about the city’s history, architecture and art along the way.

You’ll begin your Houston tour with a walk down Main Street towards the Chase Bank Building, which features eight frescoes depicting Texas history. Your local guide will explain these pieces, giving you a greater understanding of the history of the city and state alike. From here, you will enter the Downtown Houston Tunnel System and walk over to Chase Tower, the tallest building in Texas. Your guide will lead you outside for a photo op in front of Joan Miro’s 1982 Personage and Birds.

Next, you’ll cross the street and enter Philip Johnson’s award-winning Pennzoil Place. You’ll ride an escalator down to the Tunnel where you will enjoy a sweet treat at a unique boutique bakery with some of the best cookies in Houston.

Finish your Houston tour by walking through downtown’s oldest and newest tunnels and see the only remaining portion of a 1913 hotel known as “The Cotton” before returning to the starting point with your guide.

Visit was interesting in itself. Tour guide was pleasant, although not prepared. I.e.: Was suggesting visits to museums, but unaware that they are closed on Mondays. Did not mention a beautiful stained glass window and could not answer some questions of the group. Did not know where there was a tourist information kiosk.
