What you can expect

    • Meet at Odawara Station at 08:30, then visit Amazake Chaya teahouse, one of the few remaining among hundreds of teahouses that adorned the Old Tokaido.
    • After some heart-warming amazake (non-alcoholic), we follow the stone-paved Tokaido on foot through the forest down to the shore of Lake Ashinoko in Moto-Hakone.
    • We stroll along the mile-long Cedar Avenue, lined on both sides with towering 400-year-old cedars, then continue through Hakone Checkpoint.
    • Enjoy lunch by the lake.
    • We rejoin the Old Tokaido for a largely forested hike to Yamanaka Castle Ruins, with a Mount Fuji photo opportunity (weather permitting).
    • Then continue to Mishima and stroll along the Genbe River World Heritage Water Area. The tour finishes at Mishima Station.
      About 8 miles walking total.
