What you can expect
The Andes Mountains preserve much of our history and culture, as well as being a major meeting point for the people of Mendoza. They beckon us to travel along their winding paths, discovering unique landscapes at every turn and learning about both man-made wonders, such as the Potrerillos Dam, and natural wonders, such as the Puente del Inca and Cerro Aconcagua.
We will depart early in the morning on National Route No. 7, heading towards the town of Cacheutas and skirting the Mendoza River, with majestic views of the Cordón del Plata mountain range and the Potrerillos Dam. We will then continue to Uspallata, a pre-Hispanic settlement of the Huarpes indigenous people. We will then continue on towards the villages of Picheuta, Polvaredas, and Punta de Vacas, as well as the former ski resort of Los Penitentes. Further on, we will come to Puente del Inca, a natural architectural marvel featuring thermal spring outflows. Just a few kilometres away, at an elevation of 2,750 metres (8,698 feet), is the Cerro Aconcagua viewpoint, overlooking the 6,959-meter (22,831-foot) colossus of the Americas.
Finally, we will visit the town of Las Cuevas (on the border with Chile at an elevation of 3,200 metres above sea level), and, weather and road conditions permitting, we will conclude the tour with a visit to the Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) monument. Around noon, we will stop for lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we will return to the hotel.
Notes:
. Lunch at a local restaurant is at the passenger's expense.
. Access to the Christ the Redeemer Monument is possible during the summer season, subject to approval by the relevant authorities, due to weather conditions and the state of the route.
