Heraklion, Crete’s capital, is a lively, modern city with a beautifully walkable historic centre. Meet your guide in the city centre outside Capsis Astoria Heraklion hotel, on Eleftherias Square (Plateia Eleftherias), and begin your walk through the city’s most vibrant areas.
The charming old town is mostly pedestrianised, making it ideal for an easy stroll. Walk along the waterfront past bobbing boats in the harbour and reach the imposing Venetian Fortress of Koules. In the heart of the old town, Byzantine churches stand among neoclassical mansions and Ottoman-era fountains, reflecting the city’s multicultural past.
During the tour, you’ll explore key highlights such as the open-air market, the Venetian Loggia, the Cathedral of St. Minas and the Church of St. Titus. You’ll also walk along the historic 25th of August Street, which links the port, the marina, and the Koules Fortress with the city centre and one of Heraklion’s main open-air markets.
We end in Lion’s Square for a local treat: bougatsa cheese pie paired with Greek coffee.
