Day 1: Guwahati to Jorhat
Begin your journey with a scenic drive from Guwahati to Jorhat, the “Tea Capital of India.” Check into your lodge or resort, chosen for comfort, local flavour, and easy access to the forest.
In the afternoon, visit a nearby tea estate to watch pluckers at work and learn how the region shaped India’s tea storey. Then, explore a local market to discover bamboo crafts, fresh spices, and the easy hospitality of the town.
Day 2: Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary
Before sunrise, set out with your naturalist guide to Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary. As you step onto the forest trail, hear the rising, echoing duet of the gibbons. These songs act as territorial calls and bonding rituals—a behaviour studied by primatologists for its complexity and evolutionary significance.
Follow your guide into the heart of the forest as the canopy brightens. Gibbon sightings usually begin early, when families are active, feeding, and calling. Watch adults swinging with fluid, weightless motion, mated pairs calling across treetops, and youngsters clinging, playing, and learning the rhythm of the canopy.
The sanctuary is also home to seven primate species, including pig-tailed macaques, stump-tailed macaques, capped langurs, and the shy nocturnal slow loris. With expert guidance, explore this rare biodiversity in a responsible, low-impact way.
