With enough time to get to know Tikal, take pictures, time to rest, climb the permitted structures. The Tikal archaeological site has about 5,000 pre-Hispanic buildings in an area of approximately 16 km2, of which only 15% is restored and enabled for exploration. The area of Tikal covers approximately 576 km2, most of which have not yet been cleared, mapped or excavated.
Tikal Temple III (Pass by)
To the west of the Great Square, across the Tozzer Causeway, is Temple III, still under restoration. Only their upper reaches have been cleared. A scene carved from the lintel of its peak, 55 m high, depicts a figure in an elaborate jaguar suit, believed to be the ruler Dark Sun. In front of it is the 24th stele, which marks the date of its construction, 810 AD.
Temple IV

It is located in a westerly direction overlooking the Plaza Mayor. This Mayan construction has a height of about 70 metres from the ground to its cresting. Also, it is the largest temple in Tikal not only for its height but also for its volume which is approximately 191 cubic metres. It is therefore considered the largest in America. It is believed that this compound was built during the reign of Yik’in Chan Ka’wil, son of Hasaw Cha’an Kawil. An important part of this construction was embodied in the lintels. This is because they recorded the wars and exploits of this ruler.
Lost World
  • 45m
  • Admission ticket included
Mundo Perdido has 37 structures spread over an area of 60,000 square metres. It is known to be the largest ceremonial complex in Tikal and dates back to around the preclassical period. The constructive history of the Astronomical Commemoration Complex was in the Late Eb phase between 700-600 BC. Some records indicate that this square was organised as an astronomical complex. Which in turn is formed by a pyramid aligned with a platform located in an easterly direction. Part of this building consisted of these temples being used for stargazing. This method was used by the Maya to keep track of the passage of time, according to the astronomical methods they used.
