What you can expect

Aroha!

Once you have met your guide at the agreed meeting point, they will take you to the Museum of Tahiti and the Islands, located on the west side of the island in Puna'auia. Right from the start, you will be immersed in local stories, with a presentation of the Polynesian landscapes and environment.

Located on Pointe Nu’uroa, the Museum of Tahiti and the Islands is built on ancestral royal land where a Marae was erected as part of the Mata’eina’a of Atehuru, which today encompasses the municipalities of Puna’auia and Paea.

On a clear day, from the Museum’s car park, you can see the peaks of the mountains in the direction of the Punaruu Valley, including Mount Marau, Te Tara o Maio, and Orohena. On the sea side, you will find the Sapinus surfing spot, which offers a very fast reef wave that requires exceptional skill.

You will arrive at the Museum in this new building, which opened in 2023 and houses the collection’s exhibits in a single room. The various sections of the collection and the different themes will be presented to you in an order that aligns with your interests and your level of knowledge.

You will have the choice of exploring the collection of Marquesan objects, featuring the distinctive symbols that represent the style of this archipelago, or the various Ti’i and Tiki from the different islands, as well as the colonial history that began in the 18th century and forever transformed these South Sea islands.

Te aroha ia rahi.
