This 2-night experience kicks off with a departure from Guatemala City on Friday night, at approximately 8:00 p.m. We'll travel by road to the Baja Verapaz region, with an estimated arrival around 11:00 p.m., where we'll rest at a local lodge to prepare for the next day's tour.
On Saturday, we'll leave early, around 7:00 a.m., heading to Alta Verapaz. On the way, we'll make a brief stop in Cobán to rest and get some context about the region. We'll arrive in Raxruhá around 1:00 p.m., where we'll have lunch and settle into a local hotel within a Q'eqchi' community. In the afternoon, we'll do the first guided exploration in a section of the Candelaria Caves, touring natural passages, rock formations, and underground rivers, along with an introduction to the Mayan worldview linked to this cave system.
On Sunday, after breakfast, we'll visit another section of the Candelaria Caves system to continue the experience. This tour combines dry sections and a tubing activity through underground rivers, allowing you to enjoy the caves from a different and complementary perspective. After exploring, we'll head to Cobán for lunch and then start our return to Guatemala City, with an estimated arrival between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
This adventure is designed to make the best use of travel times, reduce fatigue, and experience the Candelaria Caves in an authentic, safe, and leisurely way, connecting with the nature and culture of the Verapaces.
